The place where the Church was erected and the part of the town popularly known as \u00dajv\u00e1ros (New Town) had been a vineyard until the 1850s. Most of the inhabitants came from humble backgrounds with no wealth and practised the Calvinist faith know at the time as the Helvetic creed.<\/p>
Many elderly parishioners could not venture the journey to the downtown church in muddy and snowy weather, had to do without communion and a christening came with tremendous hardships as well. In a bid to end their plight, during the presbyter session of 4 May 1879, superintendent Lajos M\u00e9sz\u00e1ros along with the presbyters of \u00dajv\u00e1ros took a decision to ensure the construction of the new church by purchasing the plots in the vicinity of the \u00dajv\u00e1ros school.<\/p>
The foundation stone was laid on 2 September 1894 as part of a dedication ceremony. Church inauguration took place on 20 September 1896<\/strong>.<\/p>
The \u00dajv\u00e1ros congregation received their first ordained pastor, dr. G\u00e9za Lencz in 1904. His name is associated with the building of the clock tower, the initiation of Tuesday evening faith deepening events and the request for the construction of the \u00dajv\u00e1ros Post Office.<\/p>
G\u00e1bor K\u00f3nya was elected pastor in 1909. He launched the youth choir and the Blue Cross Teetotallers\u2019 Society.<\/p>
Following WWI and the untimely death of G\u00e1bor K\u00f3nya, \u00dajv\u00e1ros received Guszt\u00e1v Falussy as its newly ordained pastor. Known as a pastor actively involved in social life, he was later elected pastor for the downtown church in 1933.<\/p>

He was followed by G\u00e1bor Koml\u00f3si, who was an eloquent orator and an active participant in charitable service.
